They provide caring and life-changing services at every stage of the criminal justice process: in court, in prison, on release, and in the community. Pact’s vision is of a society that understands justice as a process of restoration and healing, uses prisons sparingly and as places of learning and rehabilitation, and values the innate dignity and worth of every human being. PACT work for the common good of Society, taking a public health-based approach. They work at the intersection of criminal justice, child and family welfare, mental health, wellbeing provision and health and social care.

PACT are commissioned to work within the London Health and Justice system, helping Prison Health Care providers to understand the perspectives of families of those in custody and to support improved communication and work between Healthcare staff and families. In London, PACT have been instrumental in working with Healthcare providers and families to develop a Family and Carers Charter for Health and Justice.

The HJLH are working with PACT to improve the information and guidance that is available to families and carers following safety incidents; and ensure that communication after these incidents maximises the likelihood that families feel able to be involved in the investigation if they wish to.
